Nepal Trekking Season

Nepal Trekking Season is most important from September to May. Autumn (September, October and November) and Spring (March, April and May) are the most suitable times for delightful mountain travels, views of snow-clad peaks, sunrise, sunset, photography, flora, and fauna splendours.

Nepal Hiking Season starts after the monsoon (14th June to 14th September). Mid-September, October, and November have perfect weather with blue sky, greenery, and Himalayas views for exciting hiking. The season celebrates even Dashain, Deepawali and Chhat festivals and harvesting. The moon and galaxy appear during the bright fortnight. Government offices, schools and colleges close nationwide during the festival. The trekking guides, porters and Serpa will be busy. The hotel and airlines remain overfull.

Next, Nepal's ideal trekking season is March, April, and May (spring). Mountain weather remains warm with an outstanding mountain view. The spring blooms colourful rhododendrons and orchid flowers with chirping birds along the trekking route. National parks and conservation areas turn into wild gardens with spectacular mountain views. Trekkers encounter expedition groups in April and May in Everest, Annapurna and Makalu base camps.

Nepal Trekking Season is worth observing mountain peaks, wildlife, plants, and festivals. Mountain trekkers must know the weather forecast before the base camp and mountain pass. Several people were killed in 2014 by snowstorms in Annapurna and Everest Region. Proper clothes, medicine, food, a professional guide, porter are essentials for trekkers. Hotel booking remains difficult in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and the mountain during the high season. Book your hotel earlier if possible. International flights ticket to Kathmandu remains full.

Is Off-Season Trek Possible?

Because of Nepal's diverse topography, trekking is possible round-year even in the off-season. Hiking and Trekking in December, January and February (winter season) can be possible in low-altitude areas. Winter temperature drops below zero in the Himalayan base camp and high pass. Heavy snowfalls close the base camps mountain passes like Cho La (5420 m) in the Everest region, Thorung La (5416 m) in the Annapurna region, Ganja La (5122 m) and Lauribina La (4610 m) in the Langtang region, Larkya La (5106 m) in Manaslu region, Dhampus Pass (5122 m) in Dhaulagiri Round trek. Winter treks are arranged only at low altitudes near Kathmandu and Pokhara Valley.

Hiking in the rainy season (June, July, and August) encounter slippery trails without a mountain view. The monsoon carries heavy rainfall with wet and warm weather. The mountain view will be rare in the summer. Leech grows in Annapurna and Langtang trekking routes. Trekking trails face landslides, falling rocks and slippery. However, monsoon trekking is possible only in the rain shadow area of Nepal, Upper Mustang, Jomsom, and Dolpo Region. A few days of trekking to the foothills of Annapurna, Langtang, Everest, Kathmandu and Pokhara valleys are always possible in four seasons. Diverse landscapes with elevations suit trek even in June, July, and August.
