Lower Dolpo trek

Lower Dolpo trek is an adventure 13-day camping trip that lies in the northwest Himalaya Region of Nepal. Tour to remote and highest village with Tibetan types of Nepalese people in the Mountain Valley is interesting. Hiking begins after the Nepalgunj-Juphal flight. An altitude variation is 2300 m to 5200 m high above the sea. The Practice of Tibetan Buddhism culture, polyandry marriage system and caravan trading with yak, horse and sheep are interesting.  Tibetan plateau and this area are similar.

Lower Dolpo trek is a strenuous journey with two high passes including Numa La (5190 m) and Baga La (5070 m). The Oscar awarded film was shooting here and Mr. Thinly was an actor. Camping trek is possible with 5 to 7 hours walking in a day. The tribe people have their own dialogue, typical dress, food habit and ornaments. Shey Phokshundo National Park is notable with wildlife and plants. Interesting photographs can be possible here.

Lower Dolpo trek is possible to visit even in monsoon as a rain-shadow area. Bonpo monasteries are in Do Tarap Village. Local people involve in agriculture, pastoralism and caravan trading to Tibet. Horse use local transportation here. Monks go to a cave 3 to 25 years to become a Lama. People are under a poverty line, however, culture and tradition is rich. Phoksundo Lake, Suligad Waterfall, numerous medicinal plants and yarsa gumba are available there. Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu Airport

Day 03: Kathmandu to Nepalgunj (165 m) – 50 minute by flight

Day 04: Nepalgunj to Juphal (2320 m) and hike to Dunai (2110 m) – 3 hours

Day 05: Drive 6 km road by jeep to the airport.

Day 06: Tarakot to Laini (3160 m) – 6/7 hours

Day 07: Laini to Nawarpani (3540 m) – 5/6 hours

Day 08: Nawarpani to Dho Tarap Village (4090 m) – 6/7 hours

Day 09: Dho Tarap to Numa La base camp (4435 m) – 6/7 hours

Day 10: Numa La base camp to Pelung Tang (4465 m) – 6/7 hours

Day 11: Pelung Tang to Dajok Tang (4080 m) – 5/6 hours

Day 12: Dajok Tang to Ringmo Village (3600 m) – 4/5 hours

Day 16: Departure to Tribhuvan International Airport

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu Airport
When the flight arrives at Tribhuvan International Airport, take the 6 km car ride with our guide, takes 25 minutes to reach the hotel. Check in hotel and guide will brief the programs. Stay overnight at hotel with breakfast in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Full day sight seeing in Kathmandu Valley
Professional Tour Guide comes at 9 AM with a car to the hotel door. Ride the car, guide explains about Nepal. The four UNESCO world heritage sites include Swayambhunath (1st century) is popular for the Buddhist Stupa, activity of the Assamese monkey and the panoramic view of Kathmandu Valley and the Himalaya. Kathmandu Durbar Square (12th to 18th century) is popular for royal palace squares, museum, Kasthamandap, the Living Goddess Kumari, Freak Street, wood carving and temple architecture. Pashupatinath (5th century) is famous for the cremation ghat, Pashupatinath Temple, the shrines with Shiva Lingam and Yoni, the Hindu holy men (Sadhus) and an activity of the Assamese monkey and deer in the sub-tropical forest. Boudhanath (5th century) is famous for the second largest Stupa in the world, Tibetan refugee settlement, painting school, huge prayer wheel, prayer flag and monastery with the monk and lama.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Nepalgunj (165 m) – 50 minute by flight
Fly to Nepalgunj in 50 minutes with the views of village, city, forest and mountain. Drive 6 km jeep to the city. Stay overnight at hotel with breakfast in Nepalgunj. Bus from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj takes 16 hour that are 522 km (324 miles) far. It is located in the southwestern Nepal. The bus stand is located 1 km north of the Birendra Chowk. Bus service is available different part of the country. The city is 6 km north of the India border and 17 km from the Nanpara Rail Station. The crowed city has mixed community, including Magar, Thakuri, and Gurung, Newar, Bahun, Tharu, Chhetri, Tibetan, sadhus and Muslim. Here are hotels, shops, colleges, schools, Bageshwori Temple, electricity and hospital. The flight from Nepalgunj to Dolpo, Bajura, Safebagar, Rukum, Surkhet, Jumla, Surkhet, Simikot and Kathmandu is possible. The summer temperature can grow up to 42 Celsius.

Day 04: Nepalgunj to Juphal (2320 m) and hike to Dunai (2110 m) – 3 hours
Drive 6 km road by jeep to the airport. Take early morning flight to Juphal in 35 minutes with the views of snow capped mountain, forest, village and river valley. Hike through the winding valley. Descend through meadows to reach Kala Gaura (2090 m) with a lodge. Walk along the river valley to Dunai. Stay overnight at a camp in Duani.

Day 05: Drive 6 km road by jeep to the airport.
Take early morning flight to Juphal in 35 minutes with the views of snow capped mountain, forest, village and river valley. Hike through the winding valley. Descend through meadows to reach Kala Gaura (2090 m) with a lodge. Walk along the river valley to Dunai. Stay overnight at a camp in Duani.Take a hot breakfast and walk along the south bank of Bheri River. Enjoy the suspension bridge, village, deep gorge, pine trees, terraced field to reach Tarakot. Here is Dzong (fort). Stay overnight at a camp in Tarakot.

Day 06: Tarakot to Laini (3160 m) – 6/7 hours
Walk continues and cross bridge couple of times over the Tarap Chu River. You will meet the Sandul Gompa with a confluence of the Tarap Chu River and Barbung Khola. Walk through a village with terraced fields, uphill and downhill to Laini. Stay overnight at a camp in Laini.

Day 07: Laini to Nawarpani (3540 m) – 5/6 hours
Walk continues through the Tarap River gorge. Descend to Chyugur Khola. Cross a wonderful bridge and hike continues to Nawarpani. Stay overnight at a camp in Nawarpani.

Day 08: Nawarpani to Dho Tarap Village (4090 m) – 6/7 hours
Walk gradually uphill to Kamattaka with a confluence of the Lang Khola and Tarap Chu Khola. Walk with narrow gorge to the juniper bush landscape in the Himalaya Valley. Walk continues to Dho Tarap. The Magar and Tibetan people live with a practice of the Bonpo religion. Stay overnight at a camp in Dho Tarap Village.

Day 09: Dho Tarap to Numa La base camp (4435 m) – 6/7 hours
Walk through the pleasant valley to upper Tarap with the Tarap Chu Khola. You will meet Tokyu Village with Chaiba sect monastery. Visit there and Hike continues with the rough trail to reach Numa La base camp. Stay overnight at a camp in the Numa La base camp.

Day 10: Numa La base camp to Pelung Tang (4465 m) – 6/7 hours
Walk steeply uphill to reach the Numa La Pass (5190 m). Enjoy the superb view of barren mountains, including the Dhaulagiri (8167 m). Descend to Pelung Tang. Stay overnight at a camp in Pelung Tang.

Day 11: Pelung Tang to Dajok Tang (4080 m) – 5/6 hours
Walk continues an uphill to reach Baga La Pass (5070 m) with a great view of the Kanjirowa Himalaya range and the surrounding landscape. Descend to Dajok Tang. Stay overnight at a camp in Dajok Tang.

Day 12: Dajok Tang to Ringmo Village (3600 m) – 4/5 hours
Take a hot breakfast then walk continues through a forest of pine passing the yak pasture with alpine shrubs to reach Ringmo Village. Visit the Phoksundo Lake and Monastery. Stay overnight at a camp in Ringmo Village.

Day 13: Ringmo Village to Shyanta (2520 m) – 5/6 hours
Take hot breakfast and descend to Chepka. Climb uphill, then, meet villages. Climb uphill to Shyanta. Stay overnight at a camp in Shyanta.

Day 14: Shyanta to Juphal (2320 m) – 5/6 hours
Walk gradually uphill to the Sulighat. Walk through a forest of birch with the views of mountain and Juphal. Hike continues to reach Juphal. Confirm your Juphal-Nepalgunj flight ticket for tomorrow morning. Stay overnight at a camp in Juphal.

Day 15: Juphal to Nepalgunj (165 m) – Kathmandu – by flight .
Take breakfast in the morning. Fly to Nepalgunj in 35 minutes with the views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri, village, forest and river. Try the next flight from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu that takes 50 minutes. Stay overnight at hotel with breakfast in Kathmandu.

Day 16: Departure to Tribhuvan International Airport
Airport is 6 km far, which takes 25 minutes car drive. Get airport 3 hours before your flight. Hope you enjoyed trekking trip in Nepal and welcome back again with a new program. We wish you safe and happy flight.
