Nagarjuna hiking

Nagarjuna hiking is an interesting six hour day trip to climb the Jamacho as well as Nagarjun forest (Queen’s forest), three km west of the tourist town, Thamel in Kathmandu. The trip begins with a car, bicycle or Omni bus after 15 minutes at the entrance aside the Trishuli and Kakani Road. The Nagarjun Forest Reserve (5.8 Sq mile) is a part (2009) of Shivapuri National Park (established 2002). You have to pay an entrance( 565 Rupees per person for tourist and 65 Rupees per person for Nepali) and deposit an ID card before the tour and collect the ID later. The forest-clad hill has a steep trail and cool viewpoint with fresh air. You will meet an army post nearby the former Royal Palace.  

Nagarjuna hiking is ten kilometers uphill and downhill trail in the Nagarjun Forest Reserve. The tour begins at 1350 meters and reaches at 2095 meters above the sea level. While tourists are in Kathmandu, they can enjoy a view of snow-covered mountains, the capital city, and the surrounding hills. The Jamacho ridge with a view tower (2105 m), you can observe snow capped mountains, such as Ganesh Himal (7406 m), Langtang (7245 m), Jugal, Dorje Lakpa (6966 m) and Choba Bhamare (6109 m). The views of Phulchowki Hill (2765 m), Swayambhunath Temple, Shivapuri Hill (2732 m), and Chandragiri Hill (2540 m) are beautiful nearby Kathmandu Valley.

People of the Kathmandu Valley celebrate an annual festival on the full moon day of Baishak (April/May). There is a little temple with a hole in a rock for the wish fulfill nearby the view tower. The Jamacho Gumba has enshrined a statue of the Padmasambhava. The beautifully hung prayer flags with carved prayer wheels are notable. A time-limited tourist can hike there for the magnificent view and visit of the Buddhist temple. A disabled person can take the four-wheel drive on a gravel road (17 km.) to the Nagarjun forest hill.
