Tamang heritage trek

Tamang heritage trek offers an isolated route through the settlement of Tibetan types of Nepalese people with their live culture, language, dress, festival, art and lifestyle and how they are self-employed in a homestay community. The village is located south of Tibet border. The walking journey starts at Syaphrubesi (1430 m) after 8 hours bus journey (135 km) from Kathmandu. It is a part of Langtang Region. Villagers practice Tibetan Mahayana Buddhism. Rasuwagadhi (historical fort) has a suspension bridge that links Nepal and Tibet.

Tamang heritage trek is medium grade trip. It is interesting to see homestay at 2230 m in Briddim village (43 households). Tibetan culture, tradition, and lifestyle are in practice. Tourists can interact with local. The village management community offers accommodation and cuisine on a rotational basis. They provide local foods, such as potato, boiled rice, lentil soup, bread, syakpa, butter tea, local wine and Nepalese porridge (dhindo). Local people welcome to a guest with a scarf and welcome drink. Homestay tourism for a Rural Poverty Alleviation Program is implemented by Nepal Government with a help of UNDP, DFID, and SNV.

Tamang heritage trek is worthy of exploring Tibetan Buddhism, their dress, house pattern, Tibetan culture, monastery architecture, medicinal plants and wildlife, including red panda, ghoral, black bear, barking deer and pheasant. The time of Lhosar (February), Chuwa Chhiju (November), Dawa Dangbo (February) with Festival Dance such as Syabru and Mane will be noticeable. Tourists can buy traditional handicraft such as a muffler, woolen bag, belts, bang-up and gloves as a souvenir. Tatopani (2607 m) offers a hot spring bath to cure body pain. Day 07: Thuman to Rasuwagadhi (1814 m) – 5/6 hours

Day 08: Rasuwagadhi to Briddim (2230 m) – 5/6 hours

Day 11: Departure to Tribhuban International Airport

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu Airport 1337 m
When flight arrives at Tribhuban International Airport, take 6 km drive with our guide, takes 25 minutes to reach hotel. Check in hotel and guide will brief the programs. Stay overnight at hotel with breakfast in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Full day sightseeing in Kathmandu – 6 hours
Professional Tour Guide comes at 9 AM with a car to the hotel door. Ride the car, guide explains about Nepal. The four UNESCO world heritage sites include Swayambhunath (1st century) is popular for the Buddhist Stupa, activity of the Assamese monkey and the panoramic view of Kathmandu Valley and the Himalaya. Kathmandu Durbar Square (12th to 18th century) is popular for royal palace squares, museum, Kasthamandap, the Living Goddess Kumari, Freak Street, wood carving and temple architecture. Pashupatinath (5th century) is famous for the cremation ghat, Pashupatinath Temple, the shrines with Shiva Lingam and Yoni, the Hindu holy men (Sadhus) and an activity of the Assamese monkey and deer in the sub-tropical forest. Boudhanath (5th century) is famous for the second largest Stupa in the world, Tibetan refugee settlement, painting school, huge prayer wheel, prayer flag and monastery with the monk and lama.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Syaphrubesi (1430 m) – 8 hours by bus
Kathmandu to Syaphrubesi is 139 km distance bus takes minimum 8 hours and Jeep takes 5 hours. Local buses are available in morning. Kathmandu to Trisuli (570 m) is 70 km and Trisuli to Dhunche (1965 m) is 50 km distance. Here are few hotels with power line. The view of Langtang Himal and Bhote Kosi valley is good from here. Dhunche to Syaphrubesi is 19 km road. Stay overnight here at lodge.

Day 04: Syaphrubesi to Gutlang (2215 m) – 5/6 hours
Walk uphill to reach Goljung. It is a Tamang village with monasteries and beautiful houses. Walk continues ups and a down trails to reach a ridge then descend to Gutlang. Tamang village lies on a hillside with terraced fields, gompa and Parvati kund (lake, above 2500 m). Enjoy cultural show at evening. Stay overnight at home stay lodge.

Day 05: Gutlang to Tatopani (2605 m) via Thambuchet – 5/6 hours
Descend to valley floor and cross Chilime Khola and reach Thambuchet (1700 m) in 2 hours. Chilime is a popular hydroelectric project here. View of Ganesh Himal and Langtang see while walking. Walk through a Buddhist shrines then climb uphill to reach Tatopani (hot spring) in 3.30 hours. Here is natural hot spring, which works as a medicine for pain and ache of body. Stay over night here.

Day 06: Tatopani to Thuman (2338 m) via Nagthali Danda – 5/6 hours
Walk to uphill and meet Gompas then reach Nagthali (3165 m) in 3.30 hours. Beautiful passes with pastures where if view of Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Sanjen and Kerung. Descend to Thuman Village in 2 hours. Tamang village with Tibetan types of Nepalese are friendly. Enjoy cultural show at evening. Stay over night at home stay lodge

Day 07: Thuman to Rasuwagadhi (1814 m) – 5/6 hours
Walk through Dalphedi (2315 m) and cross Bhote Kosi River and continue to Timure (1760 m) in 3.30 hours. This is old trade route to Tibet. Walk gradually uphill along bank of river to Rasuwagadhi in 1.30 hours. It lies at a bank of river with a link bridge of Nepal and Tibet. Stay over night here.

Day 08: Rasuwagadhi to Briddim (2230 m) – 5/6 hours
Walk along a bank of Bhote Kosi River to Timure. Pass few landslides and continue to reach Lingling (1735 m) then climb uphill to Briddim Village. Big Tamang village and Tibetan culture with 43 houses are here. Home stay lodge with cultural show can see at evening. Few old monasteries with monks and lamas are here. Terraced field of potato and barley are beautiful. Festival celebrates by local, few times in a year. Stay over night at home stay lodge.

Day 09: Briddim to Syaphrubesi (1430 m) – 3/4 hours
Walk through a terraced field. Walk few ups and downhill, and then cross Bhote Kosi River to reach Syaphrubesi. It is possible to continue to Langtang Valley. If you like that, continue to Lama Hotel in 6 hours. If not come back to Syaphrubesi with shops, school and teahouses. Make sure your bus ticket to Kathmandu for tomorrow morning. Stay over night at lodge.

Day 10: Syaphrubesi to Kathmandu (1350 m) – 8 hours by bus
Bus leaves to Kathmandu in morning. Bus takes minimum 8 hours for 139 km road. Bus goes through town, village, terraced fields, Dhunche, Kalikasthan, Trishuli Bazaar and Rani Pauwa then reach to Kathmandu. Stay overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 11: Departure to Tribhuban International Airport
Airport is 6 km far, which takes 25 minutes car drive. Get airport 3 hours before your flight. Hope you enjoyed trekking trip in Nepal and welcome back again with new program. We wish you safe and happy flight.
