Trekking Permit and TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) are necessary for all trekkers to the mountain regions of Nepal, such as Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Arun Valley, Everest, Rolwaling, Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Annapurna, Upper Mustang, Dhaulagiri, Dolpo, and Api Nampa. Nepal has a regular, controlled, and restricted trekking region.
Trekking Permit and TIMS are available in Kathmandu and Pokhara immigration offices. The government-registered trekking companies and the Nepal Tourism Board issued the permits. Everest and Langtang National Park posts sell the permit. The Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) permit required for the Annapurna Region. Nepal visa is only valid in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Terai regions. Permit price is separate for Foreign and SAARC tourists (South Asian Association Regional Cooperation like India, Pakistan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka).
TIMS Card colour is different to SAARC and foreign tourists. Individual Tourists buy the TIMS at the Nepal Tourism Board. Government-registered trekking companies sell the TIMS. The restricted area, Upper Mustang, and Manaslu treks require at least two people in a group. Ten-year-old children require a trekking permit. To issue the permit, fill out a form with two passport-size photos. The National parks and heritage documentary films require extra permission.
Trekking Area, Permit Selling Office and Cost
All trekking Areas require trekking permits, special permits and TIMS are available in the Kathmandu Immigration Office, Kalika Marga and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Bhrikuti Mandap. Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) Office Maligaun, Kathmandu and Pokhara or Trekking companies sell the permits. Some National parks also sell their park permit.
