Ghale Gaun village tour explores the Gurung settlement at 2100 m altitude with community homestay, rural lifestyle, culture, festival, and dress in Lamjung district, Nepal. Ghale Gaun (700 years old) was the capital of Ghale Kings centuries ago. Ghale and Gurung live in Ghalegaun in Kholasothar Rural Municipality, Lamjung. The village has 125 households, including 80 Gurung and 45 Dalit communities.

Ghale village with red zinc sheet lies 24 km from Besishahar, accessed by 1:30 hours of Jeep road and 8 hours by walking path (Besisahar-Puma village-3 hours, Puma village-Ghalegaun-4 hours). A direct bus from Katmandu to Khudi takes 7 hours (185 km road) to stay overnight. In the morning, 4/5 hours of hiking gets the Ghale Gaun. First, twelve traditional houses started homestay businesses in 2001. The 37 homestays (approximately 140 rooms) have expanded as a model SAARC tourism village. 

Ghale Gaun village tour is worth exploring snow-capped mountain view, Manaslu (8163 m), Fishtail (6993 m), Annapurna I (8091 m), Annapurna II (7939 m), Annapurna IV (7525 m), Lamjung Himal (6932 m), Buddha Himal (6974 m), Dr Harka Gurung Peak (7871 m) and Manaslu (8163 m), Himalchuli (6747 m). The attractions are Gurkha Army Park with a view tower, Bird watching at Talangyo Lake, Jal Devi Tije Uttar Kanya Temple, Sat Kuwa, Batase cave, Khudi hydroelectric dam, sunrise, sunset, museum, sheep shelter, Pempro fall. The people from the village have been serving as a Gurkha Army in India and England since 1857.

Ghale Gaun practises age-old cultural dances Rodhi, Ghatu, Jhyaure, Ghyabring (priest), Sherga, Jhankri, Krishna Charitra, fair, Hindu Buddhist festival, Lhosar, Dashain, Tihar, typical dress with a musical instrument. Enthusiasts can take a high cliff honey hunting tour fixing a 200-meter bamboo ladder of hemp rope. Travellers can test fresh garden tea (1000 Ropanis), organic food, millet wine, bread, seasonal vegetable, tomato pickle, fresh ghee, and a TV channel in the village. Chicken curry with Nepalese porridge made of millet flour and boiling water. 

Ghale Gaun village boosts the rural economy, local's involvement, and village tourism. The homestay lodge owns a room, hot shower, and clean toilet. Tourists taste buffalo milk, fresh vegetables, and seasonal fruits. Local souvenirs are available woollen clothes, Radi, Pakhi (hand-knitted woollen mats and blankets), scarf, bags (Himalayan nettle), bamboo baskets, Bhakari, head strap, Ghum (umbrella), carpet. Locals make a tumpline and basket from Himalayan bamboo. The local's lifestyle, interaction, tradition, and hospitality are notable. Annual 20000 visitors with 1000 foreigners travel there.

There are two more traditional villages in the Lumjung district. Ghanpokhara at 2175 m (60 households) can reach in 45 minutes of hiking. Day 01: Kathmandu to Khudi (790 m) via Besishahar (820 m) - 7/8 hours by bus
Drive Kathmandu-Pokhara highway to Dumre with 135 kilometres then a separate road to Besisahar is 43 km. Besishahar is the district headquarters of Lamjung. There are 20 hotels with electricity, Marsyangdi River in the south, snow-capped mountains in the north. Besisahar to Khudi is 7 km, takes 25 minutes by bus. Stay overnight at a lodge in Khudi.

Day 02: Khudi to Ghalegaun - 4/5 hours
After a hot breakfast with a backpack, hike to Ghale Gaun for 5 hours with views of mountains, rivers, villages, forests. When we reach the village, the host welcomes us with a drink. Stay overnight at a homestay lodge with local food in Ghale Gaun Village.

Day 03: Getting around in Ghale Gaun
Take a hot breakfast, then explore Ghalegaun with a typical lifestyle, agriculture, Gurung language, dress, custom. We enjoy a view of snow-capped mountains, Annapurna, Lamjung, Buddha Himal. After dinner, locals present a cultural show with typical dresses. Stay overnight at a homestay lodge with local foods in Ghale Gaun Village.

Day 04: Ghale Gaon to Khudi - 3/4 hours
Take a hot breakfast and descend to Khudi in 4 hours with the views of the Marshyangdi River Valley, mountains, terraced fields, forest, and village. Stay overnight at a lodge in Khudi Village.

Day 05: Drive from Khudi to Kathmandu - 8 hours
Later a hot breakfast the 185 km local bus journey goes to Kathmandu in 8 hours. We enjoy the views of highway town, village, Marshyangdi and Trishuli River valley, rice terrace, mountains. Stay overnight in Kathmandu with a bed and breakfast.
