Kathmandu Durbar Square (8th to 18th Century) is the medieval palace square known as Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square in the city centre. There are 50 beautiful fantastic monuments, such as Kumari House (Living Goddess), Freak Street, museum, wooden pavilion (Kasthamandap), Shiva-Parvati Temple, Taleju bell, nine-stored palace tower, Jagat Narayan Temple (with Kama Sutra), Statue of Kala Bhairab, Seto Bhairab. Sadhus, pilgrims and hawkers with holy cows walk around. A restaurant with a café is available for visitors.
Swayambhunath Stupa (5th-century) is a renowned Buddhist site, a landmark of Kathmandu Valley on a forested hill with panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley, green hills and snow-capped mountains. Activities of Assamese monkeys, pilgrims, monks and visitors are remarkable. Five Dhyani Buddhas, a monkey swimming pool, Vajradhatu Mandala, 365 stone stairways, the architecture of Swayambhu Maha Chaitya, Harati Temple (Children Protector), a monastery, a handicraft shop, and paintings are impressive. Drive 13 minutes to Kathmandu Durbar Square via Chhauni Barack. Walk 5 minutes, buy 1000 Rupees (foreigners) or 500 Rupees (SAARC) tickets and enjoy the temple and palace complex with museum, towers and Living Goddess Kumari.
