Tamang Heritage Trek is an exciting journey of Tamang village in Langtang with its lifestyle, culture, language, dress, festivals, food habits, and traditions. The trip starts at Syabrubesi (1430 m) with 8 hours bus trip (135 km) from Kathmandu. Tamang people are self-employed in a homestay community south of the Tibet Border. The villages of the Langtang practised Mahayana Buddhism. Rasuwagadhi (historical fort) is the border of Nepal and Tibet.
Tamang Heritage Trekking is a moderate trip to explore the homestay (43 households) of Briddim village (2230 m). The village management community offers accommodation with food on a rotational basis. Local foods are potato, boiled rice, lentil soup, bread, shyakpa (homemade noodles), butter tea, local wine and Nepalese porridge (dhindo). Tamang community welcome trekkers with scarves and drinks. Nepal Government, UNDP, DFID, and SNV implemented the Langtang homestay tourism for a Rural Poverty Alleviation Program.
Tamang Heritage Hiking is worth learning and researching local dress, house patterns, Tibetan culture, monastery, medicinal plants, and wildlife, such as red panda, goral, black bear, barking deer and pheasant. Mountain festivals of locals celebrate Lhosar (February), Chuwa Chhiju (November), and Dawa Dangbo (February) with the Syabru and Mane dance. Tourists can buy local souvenirs of mufflers, woollen bags, belts, bang-ups and gloves. Tatopani (2607 m) is a hot spring pool for visitors to heal their body pain. Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu Airport 1337 m
We meet you at Tribhuban International Airport, transfer to hotel with 6 km driving in 25 minutes. Check-in hotel, our guide brief all programs. Stay overnight at the hotel with breakfast in Kathmandu.
Day 02: Day sightseeing in Kathmandu - 6 hours
A professional tour guide picks up you at 9 AM in a private car. He explains about day tours with Nepal facts. We visit the four UNESCO world heritage sites, including Swayambhunath (1st century), Kathmandu Durbar Square (8th to 18th century), Pashupatinath Temple with cremation, and Boudhanath (5th century) is the largest Stupa in Nepal.
Day 03: Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1430 m) - 8 hours by bus
Kathmandu to Syabrubesi is a 118 km distance, the bus takes a minimum of 8 hours and the Jeep takes 5 hours. There are a few hotels with power. Stay overnight in a lodge with food.
Day 04: Syaphrubesi to Gutlang (2215 m) - 5/6 hours
We hike uphill paths to Goljung. The Tamang village is beautiful with a monastery. We walk continue uphills and downhills to a ridge then descend to Gutlang village. Tamang village is situated on a hill station with terraced fields, Gompa and Parvati Kund (lake, above 2500 m). We enjoy the Tamang cultural show in the evening. Stay overnight at the homestay lodge with food.
Day 05: Gutlang to Tatopani (2605 m) via Thambuchet - 5/6 hours
We descend to the valley floor and cross Chilime Khola to Thambuchet (1700 m) in 2 hours. Chilime is a popular hydroelectric project. We enjoy the view of Ganesh Himal and Langtang while hiking. We walk through Buddhist shrines climbing uphill to Tatopani (hot spring) in 3.30 hours. The natural hot spring is a medicine for pain and ache of the body. Stay overnight at a lodge with food.
Day 06: Tatopani to Thuman (2338 m) via Nagthali Danda - 5/6 hours
We walk uphill to Gompas then arrives at Nagthali (3165 m) in 3.30 hours. There are beautiful passes with pastures and views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Sanjen, and Kerung. We descend to Thuman Village in 2 hours. Tamang village is interesting with friendly people. Enjoy the cultural show in the evening. Stay overnight at the homestay lodge with food.
Day 07: Thuman to Rasuwagadhi (1814 m) - 5/6 hours
We walk through Dalphedi (2315 m) crossing Bhote Kosi River to Timure (1760 m) as the old trade route to Tibet in 3.30 hours. We hike gradually uphill along the riverbank to Rasuwagadhi in 1:30 hours. The border is situated at the riverbank with a ridge between Nepal and Tibet. Stay overnight at a lodge with food.
Day 08: Rasuwagadhi to Briddim (2230 m) - 5/6 hours
We hike along the Bhote Kosi riverbank to Timure. We pass a few old landslides paths to Lingling (1735 m). We hike uphill paths to Briddim Village. There are 43 houses with Tamang culture. The homestay lodge is interesting with Tamang cultural show in the evening. There is a monastery with monks and lamas. The village has a terraced field for potatoes and barley. Local celebrates a few festivals annually. Stay overnight at the homestay lodge with food.
Day 09: Briddim to Syabrubesi (1430 m) - 3/4 hours
We hike through terraced fields with uphills and downhills paths. We cross the Bhote Kosi River to reach Syaphrubesi. There is a trekking trail to Langtang valley. Syabrubesi has a shop, school, and tea house lodges. Make sure your bus ticket to Kathmandu for tomorrow morning. Stay overnight at the lodge with food.
Day 10: Syabrubesi to Kathmandu (1350 m) - 8 hours by bus
Bus leaves for Kathmandu in the morning. The bus takes 8 hours on 139 km of road along the village, terraced fields, Trishuli Bazaar. Stay overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 11: Departure to Tribhuban International Airport
We transfer to the airport 3 hours before your flight. We wish you a safe flight.
